Moorebank Logistics Park is Australia’s largest freight infrastructure project, valued at $2 billion. When complete, it will link Port Botany direct to rail terminals and warehousing on a 243 hectare site. The precinct will have the capacity for over 1 million export-import containers per year by 2030, to be moved by rail from Port Botany.
Work is well underway on the Import Export (IMEX) Terminal site, with some parts of the project now nearing completion.
With the terminal comprising over 850,000sqm of warehousing space, the site naturally required extensive roads, driveways and paved areas to link the freight terminals with the warehouse areas.
It was important for the principal contractor to ensure the longevity and performance of the extensive amount of new pavement. A root barrier product was required to ensure that vegetation and landscaped areas did not eventually encroach into the paved areas, causing cracking and damage to the roads.
Our customer, a Sydney landscaping contractor, approached GEOmasta for a solution and we recommended the RBPE06 Root Barrier. The GEOmasta HDPE Root Barrier is continuous HDPE roll that effectively controls the spread of tree roots to unwanted areas. It also helps to retain moisture around roots and promote healthy tree and plant growth, ensuring landscaped areas can thrive.
Quick and easy to handle and install, it is a cost-effective solution designed for larger applications. It is specifically designed to prevent root damage to pavements, footpaths, driveways, retaining walls and other structures and was therefore the perfect fit for this project.
HDPE Root Barrier is a smooth, continuous, non-ribbed and non-dimpled membrane, supplied in a 30m roll. It is available in widths of 600mm up to 1200mm and is 1mm thick, making it lightweight yet durable. It can easily be cut and shaped to suit your requirements, and once in place, creates a long lasting barrier that prevents damage to structures whilst promoting healthy tree growth.
